Mug cakes are a simple, quick way to satisfy sweet cravings but still stick to a healthy eating plan and eat cake. They can be easily adapted to suit different tastes, kitchen cupboard ingredients, food preferences and intolerances. You can be use any type of flour or milk depending on your preference. You can also create loads of different flavour combinations and tweak the ingredients to suit a sweet tooth by simply adding more honey or sweetener.

The basic recipe uses coconut flour. This is because it is gluten free, high in fiber and low in carbohydrates, making it an ideal ingredient for celiacs, diabetics and those concerned with GI. Coconut flour helps keep blood sugar levels stable and therefore helps us burn fat rather than store it. As well as being quick and easy to make they also require very little washing up, especially if just eaten from straight from the mug.
